Endurance Wind Power Opens Nova Scotia Office to Support Growing Base of Customers

October 17, 2014

Endurance Wind Power of Surrey, BC is pleased to announce the opening of its new office in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Endurance Wind Power is among the world’s leading manufacturers of wind turbines for local power generation, also called distributed energy. Endurance is a market leader in the United Kingdom and has growing business in the United States and Italy.

Endurance is excited by the opportunity created by Nova Scotia’s innovative and world-leading Community Feed-In-Tariff program for community groups to earn revenue through clean energy generation. Endurance is already contributing to the continued success of the ComFiT program.

Early this winter, Endurance expects to complete the installation of the first three Endurance E3120 wind turbines under the Nova Scotia ComFiT program. These turbines owned by the Municipality of Pictou County and located in Riverton and will be used to fund sustainability-enhancing projects, such as water and sewer.

“Pictou County is pleased to be participating in Nova Scotia’s Community Feed-in-Tariff program and to be generating renewable energy for our local community. We feel we are playing a leadership role in Nova Scotia, being amongst the first municipalities to invest in clean energy infrastructure to reduce our carbon footprint,” said Ronald Baillie of the Municipality of Pictou County.

Endurance has sold over 750 wind turbines worldwide and estimates a 75% share of the UK small wind market for 50 to 100 kW machines according to 2014 internal calculations of UK Ofgem and planning data. Endurance operates factories in Surrey, BC and Worcestershire, UK and employs 150 people worldwide.

Endurance is committed to making wind work for Nova Scotia through its limited asset purchase from Seaforth Energy. Endurance provided financial backing to Seaforth, helping the company complete outstanding obligations to several Nova Scotia community groups. While Endurance cannot provide warranty cover for AOC equipment, Endurance will make available Seaforth Energy’s stock of parts and is pleased to offer service and maintenance programs to Seaforth customers.

Endurance Nova Scotia has already hired five staff in its new offices and service centre and will bring the total to seven by end of year. Endurance plans to grow its Nova Scotia team to service its expansion plans for the eastern half of North America.

Endurance Wind Power CEO Glenn Johnson says, “As a Canadian company building wind turbines in Canada, we are thrilled to be selling them in Canada, too. Nova Scotia is an important growth market for us. Having proven our design and commercial success internationally, opening a new office in the Maritimes feels a bit like a home-coming.”

Endurance’s General Manager for Eastern North America, Mike Morris, says “the timing of Endurance’s entry into Nova Scotia could not be better. This is the best place in Canada for small wind turbines and Nova Scotia has the best program to encourage community investment in small wind.”

The Nova Scotia ComFiT Program is open to applications for community-based small wind projects. The program allows municipalities, first nations, universities, co-operatives, not-for-profits and Nova Scotia CEDIF corporations to sell electricity to Nova Scotia Power at favourable rates. Community organizations generating clean power for Nova Scotia communities also generate ComFIT revenue.
