A beautifully illustrated and charmingly written children’s storybook recounts the adventure of Tommy the Turbine on his journey from the Endurance factory in Western Canada to his new home in Northern Ireland, where he generates clean energy.
The author, Pauline Davison, has toured schools in Northern Ireland to read the story to school children and present them with their own copy to keep. The reaction from children is electric and the support of educators is tremendous. The story provides a near perfect fit with parts of the school curriculum covering environment and renewable energy. Schools are now asking Pauline to bring the book their pupils.
Barry Meeke of Silverford Energy, an Endurance dealer in Northern Ireland, has accompanied Pauline on many visits and helps tell the factory to field story of real turbines and the benefits of clean energy and economic stimulus they provide to farmers and communities.
Says Pauline, “At every school, the reaction from the children is fantastic! They really enjoy the visit and ask lots of questions about renewable energy, and wind turbines in particular. Barry answers all the technical questions from, “What are the size of the blades?” to “How many homes can a wind turbine supply electricity for?” and “Where is the best place on a hill to site a wind turbine?” These children were aged between 8 and 11!! One of the teachers, who lives on a farm, was really interested in a turbine for use on the farm!”
Endurance is proud to be part of this educational project. In fact, Endurance staff are reading copies of Tommy the Turbine to their own kids at home and helping friends, family and acquaintances understand more of the benefits of renewable energy from wind.
