Schools and Universities
Wind energy projects provide schools and universities with opportunities to invest intelligently in the growing renewable energy sector. Not only can wind turbines serve as a learning tool for students and the wider community, they generate revenue thereby assisting the institutions with additional cash flow.
In Nova Scotia, universities are eligible to participate in the provincial COMFIT program, provided they meet the necessary requirements.
Shirebrook Academy installed an Endurance E3120 in April 2014. David Plummer, speaking on behalf of the Academy, describes the E3120 and says “In hindsight it has been the perfect choice for the Academy. It has worked faultlessly since it was installed and has generated in excess of 230,000 kWh of electricity in its first 18 months. That’s equivalent to a saving of more than 110,000 kgs of CO2 compared to energy generated from coal. It’s statistics like that which really highlight the benefits of wind power and help our students to appreciate the environmental advantages of renewable energy.”
